The short version: TurfRunner collects the information your campaign needs to operate. We store your voter contact data securely, we never sell it, we do not use it for advertising, and we delete everything when your election is over. Read on for the full picture.
TurfRunner is a campaign canvassing platform available at turfrunner.ca. We build tools for political campaigns and community organizations running in the United States and Canada.

When you sign up, we collect the basics: your name, email address, campaign name, candidate name, race level, city, region, and country. If you purchase a paid plan, your payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
When you invite volunteers to your campaign, we collect their name and email address to create their account and connect them to your campaign only.
This is the information your volunteers log while out canvassing. It may include resident names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, support levels, issues and concerns raised at the door, volunteer notes, voice note transcriptions, and location coordinates if the map feature is turned on.
This data belongs to you. TurfRunner stores it on your behalf. We process it to run the platform for your campaign and for nothing else.
We collect standard technical information like browser type, device type, and error logs. This is used only to keep the platform running smoothly and to fix problems.
We use your information to run TurfRunner and to support your campaign. Specifically:
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell it. We do not use voter contact data for any purpose outside of running the service for your campaign.
TurfRunner relies on a small set of trusted services to operate. Here is who they are and what they do:
Twilio and Google Maps are connected using API keys that you provide from your own accounts. We do not share your voter contact data with either service beyond what is needed to display a map or send a message you initiate.
We keep your campaign and voter contact data for the full length of your election cycle. Once your election is complete and your campaign is marked as finished, we give you 30 days to export anything you want to keep. After that window closes, your data is permanently deleted from our systems.
Basic account information like your name and email may be kept for up to 12 months after your account closes for administrative purposes, then it is also deleted.

If you are in Canada, you have the following rights under PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws:

If you are in the United States, we comply with applicable federal and state privacy laws including CAN-SPAM for email and TCPA requirements for SMS. We do not sell personal information as defined under US state privacy laws, including California's CCPA. California residents can request a summary of what personal information we have collected, used, or shared, and can ask for it to be deleted.
We take security seriously. Here is what we do to protect your information:
No system is completely immune to risk. If a security incident ever affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law and tell you exactly what happened.
TurfRunner uses a minimal set of cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies or any third party tracking. You can disable cookies in your browser, though doing so will prevent you from signing in to the platform.
TurfRunner is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you think we have done so accidentally, please contact us right away and we will remove it.
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we will email all active campaign administrators at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continuing to use TurfRunner after that date means you accept the updated policy.
